Vincenzo Nibali has won the Giglio d’Oro, which is awarded to the Italian cyclist of the year, for the sixth time in his career. He also won the award in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015

The awards ceremony took place in Calenzano, Tuscany and the Bahrain-Merida rider received 710 points which was well ahead of Matteo Trentin (Quick Step Floors) who received 490 points with Diego Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates) getting 425 points.

In 2017, Nibali finished in 3rd place at the Giro d’Italia and 2nd at the Vuelta a Espana and he took stage wins at both Grand Tours. He also won Il Lombardia for the second time in his career and overall victory at the Tour of Croatia.

The Memorial Gastone Nencini awarded to the best neo-pro went to Vincenzo Albanese (Bardiani-CSF) who finished in 5th place at the U23 World Road Race Championships.
