The Tour de France organisers announced yesterday that today’s stage of the race would be cut short by six kilometres due to strong winds on Mont Ventoux and a video posted yesterday really shows the impact that strong winds can have on cyclists on the climb.

The video was posted by YouTube user kasperbs with the caption: “This was the weather situation at the last hairpin on Mont Ventoux today at around 2:30 pm. this afternoon (13 July, 2016)”

The video shows numerous cyclists struggling to stay on their feet near the summit due to the high winds.

The stage will now finish at Chalet Reynard rather than at the summit meaning that the riders won’t be exposed to the unsheltered section of the climb.

In their statement, A.S.O. said: “Due to the weather conditions forecasted by Météo France atop the Mont Ventoux with gusts of wind likely to exceed 100km/h, Tour de France organizers have decided to modify the finale of stage 12 in order to guarantee optimal safety conditions.”
