Trek-Segafredo have agreed a two-year contract extension with Luxembourger Alex Kirsch. Kirsch, 27, first joined the team in 2019 and his strong performances throughout the first part of the season have earned him a new contract through 2021.

Alex Kirsch, currently racing at the Vuelta a España said: “I am excited to sign for two more years with Trek-Segafredo. I am really grateful for the opportunity Luca (Guercilena) gave me to join the team for 2019. I am happy to see that my work in the Spring and the first half of the season satisfied the team to the extent that I can stay for another two years.

“I really feel well within this team, I got to know the riders and staff and I am really happy here, so now I can really focus on progressing. Of course, I want to help the team in winning a Classic next year, the main goal for next year, and then maybe also win a race, a smaller one, for myself.”

Luca Guercilena, General Manager Trek-Segafredo: “When we added Alex to our roster last year, we were hoping he could be of great value in our Classics team and he has proven us right. He rides well on cobbles and since he’s so tall, it’s great for the other riders to have him with them when he’s pulling to close gaps or bring riders back. For the next years, we would like to see him growing further into that role of strong helper in the cobbled Classics and why not also win some races on similar terrain?”
