World Champion Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) will start his 2020 season at the first WorldTour race of the year, the Tour Down Under, which will be his third appearance at the Australian race. Pedersen will use the early season racing as preparation for the cobbled classics in the rainbow jersey. Pedersen, who will celebrate his 24th birthday next week, is due to make his Tour de France debut next June.
The team’s three GC riders, Bauke Mollema, Vincenzo Nibali, and Richie Porte will share leadership across the three Grand Tours. Multiple Grand Tour winner Vincenzo Nibali has his sights set on the Giro d’Italia, a race that he has won twice before. Supporting him will be two-time Giro stage winner and 2019 King of the Mountains Giulio Ciccone.
Bauke Mollema will race with Richie Porte, and together they will lead the Trek-Segafredo team at the Tour de France. In the Vuelta a España, Mollema, Nibali, and Ciccone are expected to race together.
Vincenzo Nibali will race in the colours of Trek-Segafredo for the first time at the Volta ao Algarve as he starts his build-up for the Giro. The Portuguese stage race will mark the first time that Nibali races alongside new teammate Bauke Mollema. The recent Lombardia winner will also be making his season racing debut in Portugal.
Richie Porte will be starting 2020 in his usual fashion by racing his home race, the Tour Down Under, where he will be aiming to add another win to his tally at Willunga Hill.
