Belgian rider Jasper de Buyst has taken to Twitter to express his disappointment with a decision by the race jury at the European Track Championships which have been taking place this week in Grenchen, Switzerland.

De Buyst was taking part in final race of Day 1 of the Omnium, the Elimination race, and he was the fifth rider to be knocked out, which gave him a position of 16th out of 20 participants.

However, de Buyst later posted a photo on Twitter which appeared to show that it was the Portuguese rider Rui Oliveira who was last across the line rather than the Belgian.

De Buyst finished the Omnium in 6th place overall, as Italian rider Elia Viviani took gold with Lasse Norman Hansen of Denmark in second and Great Britain’s Jonathan Dibben finishing in third.

He then went to say: “The jury can do what they want. And if you protest, they may exclude you from the entire tournament. Congratulations!”
