Stage 2 of the Tour de France takes the riders from Utrecht to Zélande with Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) being the first yellow jersey wearer of the race.

The stage is just 166kms long and flat, which would normally suit the sprinters. However, there could be serious damage caused by crosswinds when the race reaches the coast. The riders will be racing on extremely exposed roads, and if conditions are right, then echelons could form.

Mark Cavendish has shown in the past his ability to be in the right place when echelons form. Others who it might suit could include Andre Greipel and John Degenkolb. It’s also going to be very interesting to see how the GC riders contend with the exposed conditions.
