Today’s final stage of the Tour de France is a celebration of the efforts of the past three weeks, and at this stage there’s nothing really left to be decided. All of the jersey competitions are sewn up as well as the team competition. It’s only the stage itself that will be contested.

The stage is just 109.5 kilometres long from Sèvres – Grand Paris Seine Ouest to Paris Champs-Élysées and racing will only really begin when they reach the finishing circuit. The first half of the stage will just be a procession while all the jersey wearers get their photos taken by the press.

It’s difficult to see anybody other than either Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) or Mark Cavendish (Etixx-Quick Step) winning the stage. Although Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) has proven the most consistent rider, it’s hard to see him competing with the speed of Greipel or Cavendish.

Riders will try and go clear on the finishing circuit but breakaways rarely succeed. Having battled through the Alps for the past four days, the sprinters won’t want to miss out on the chance for one last stage win, so their teams will want to ensure that it comes down to a sprint.
