The test event for the 2016 Olympics Road Race takes place in Rio today, and the organisers have produced this video which shows how the stunning the course is for both today’s race and next year’s Olympics Road Race.

Today’s race starts in Copacabana and finishes about four hours later alongside São Conrado beach. It will pass through Ipanema, Leblon, São Conrado, Barra, Recreio, Guaratiba, Alto da Boa Vista, Tijuca Forest (including the Vista Chinesa viewing point), Horto, Jardim Botânico and Gávea.

Countries including Italy, France, Kazakhstan, Australia, Belgium and Switzerland take part in the race. Brazil will have two teams, while Great Britain, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine will complete the line-up.

Among the big names in the race are Australia’s Richie Porte and Romain Bardet and Thibaut Pinot of France. Switzerland’s Gregory Rast, Steven Kruijswijk of The Netherlands and Great Britain’s Ben Swift are also set to line up in the race.
