48 Tornanti di Notte (48 Hairpin Bends by Night) is a film which is set to be released later this year which tells the remarkable story of Giuliano Calore and his attempt to enter the history of cycling.

Giuliano Calore was born in Padova (Italy) in 1938. During his life he has contributed to writing the history of extreme cycling. Some of his extraordinary exploits are in the Guinness Book of Records, and led him to receive the coveted honour of “King of the records”.

In 1981 for example, he cycled up and down the Stelvio Pass playing 4 musical instruments, carrying a total weight of 33kgs. In 1983, he crossed 14 Dolomite passes in 13 hours.

The following year, he cycled up the Stelvio using only his right leg in a time of 1 hour and 36 minutes. In 1985, he descended the Stelvio in a record time of 27 minutes and 1 second. Four years later, he set a record time for climbing the Stelvio, beating Bernard Hinault’s time by four minutes.

Giuliano Calore is now 77 years old and he is determined to realise his last record. He wants to attempt to descend the Stelvio at night, 48 hairpin turns by bike with no bars, no brakes and only illuminated by a flashlight and the moonlight.

The documentary tells the incredible story of this bizarre character with a boundless passion for cycling, and for a free, unconventional lifestyle.
