Amongst those who lined up in CrossVegas, the first round of the UCI Cyclo Cross World Cup on on Wednesday were a pair of riders from Luxembourg, Suzie Godart and Beatrice (Trixy) Godart.

It’s not unusual for siblings to race alongside each other, but the Godarts are actually mother and daughter. 53 year-old Suzie works as a a sports teacher in primary schools and only took up cycling at the age of 32. Since then, she has won numerous national titles in mountain biking, road racing and cyclo cross.

Suzie also took part in a number of UCI races on the road earlier this season including Erondegemse Pijl (Erpe-Mere) and La Classique Morbihan.

She says on her website: “Even now riding my bike is a necessary drug that helps me stay young. I tried to stop competition several times, but as you can see without success, so I’ve decided to go on as long as I take pleasure in riding and I don’t feel ridiculous.”

Her 26 year-old daughter Trixy’s best result in the last cross season was 14th in the Cyclo-cross International de Nommay, a C2 race.

For the record, Suzie was best of the Godarts in CrossVegas, finishing in 42nd place, a lap down on the winner Katerina Nash of the Czech Republic with her daughter finishing two places further back.
