Santa Claus will have to leave the sleigh at home this year – the Marble City Cyclers want everyone to get on their bikes for Christmas!

The MCC are busy putting the finishing touches together for their annual Yule fund-raiser. The Festive 50 will once again take over Kilkenny, with Sunday December 14 the big day.

One of the club’s annual fund-raisers, The Marble City Cyclers Festive 50 is a 50km fun charity cycle in aid of The Irish Wheelchair Association.

The cycle is a 50km event which will take cyclists on a tour through the central part of the county.

The Festive 50 will start and finish from the Irish Wheelchair Association Offices on the College Road.

The cycle will leave Kilkenny, travelling out to Paulstown before turning for Gowran and Dungarvan. There will be a food stop when the touring party reach Thomastown, before travelling on to Bennettsbridge and back to Kilkenny.

The event is intended to be very relaxed, with beginners encouraged to come along. Cyclists can get into the Christmas spirit by decorating their bikes festively or dressing up for the event. Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed on the day.

Entry to the Festive 50 is €10 (the fee for non-Cycling Ireland members is €15, which includes a one-day Cycling Ireland licence). All proceeds raised from the day will go towards the Irish Wheelchair Association.

The cycle will start at 11am. Registration for the event begins at 10.15am.
