Stunt rider and former British and World Champion mountain bike trials rider Martyn Ashton has posted an uplifting photo of himself standing up with the use of a powerwalker and looking out his bedroom window with the message: “:-)Taking a look out my bedroom window for the first time in over 2 years #Winning”

It’s another positive sign from his rehabilitation process following on from his terrible accident two years ago. Ashton broke his back on 1 September 2013 during a demo at a Moto GP in Silverstone. A 3-metre fall from a high bar left him with severe damage to his spinal cord and dislocated T9 and T10 vertebrae.

In July of this year, he rode a modified bike down a mountain, which was featured in the Youtube video “Martyn Ashton – Back On Track” by Global Mountain Bike Network.

“I have been riding bikes for so long it defines my life,” Ashton said about his return to the bike. “Riding is such a natural thing to me – it is who I am. I am not willing to let go of it despite the situation.

“All of us who ride bikes – whatever level it is – experience the exhilaration and freedom of riding. For some, and especially for me, that sticks and never goes away.”
