The bike rider in the video was approaching roadworks with the road closed down to a single lane when this impatient driver merged in behind him. With no room to overtake the cyclist took the lane for his own safety which seemed to anger the driver of the car who decided to tailgate a few feet behind the cyclist. Driving so close to any other road user is very dangerous leaving very little reaction time in the event of a problem. Imagine the cyclist hit a pothole and fell off his bike the driver behind would most likely end up driving over him.

  1. Is this really worth sharing? Drivers drive too close to other cars and cyclists all the time and cyclists tailgate other cyclists and cars and buses and undertake and overtake dangerously loads! This sort of video just fuels the war on our roads angle that every media outlet wants to promote, please don’t join them.

    • Yes, yes it is. tailgating is dangerous to other drivers. tailgating cyclists is potentially lethal. This video demonstrated how a cyclist should control the traffic, and should behave when encountering a bad driver. It is not propaganda to fuel a war. A video of a punchup would do that…

    • Taking primary road position sure is correct but stopping and blocking a car because they are too close is asking for trouble and wouldn’t be advised by any cycling organisation. I would have to stop thirty times a journey and would end up dead if we want cyclists to do that

    • I agree with you. I think I would have rather signaled with my hand to slow down, calm down, acknowledging to the driver that I am aware he/she is there. It’s nice the police did something about it, though. I would doubt that would be the case in a US city.
