Cycling Ireland has selected a twenty-four rider team for the UEC Road Championships across Junior, U23 and Elite levels which takes place from 7th – 11th August 2019 in Alkmaar, the Netherlands.

The team for the Elite Men’s Road Race includes both Sam Bennett (Bora hansgrohe) who has enjoyed a very successful 2019 season, taking multiple WorldTour wins with stage victories at the UAE Tour, Paris-Nice, Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey and Critérium du Dauphiné. He also won the Irish National Road Race Championships. Amongst those lining up alongside Bennett will be Eddie Dunbar (Team Ineos) who finished 22nd overall at the Giro d’Italia, which was Grand Tour debut and Rory Townsend (Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes) who has also had some impressive results this season including 2nd at the Memorial Philippe Van Coningsloo (1.2), 3rd at Heylen Vastgoed Heistse Pijl (1.1), Rutland – Melton Cicle Classic (1.2) and Classic Loire Atlantique (1.1) in addition to 4th at the Irish Road Race Championships.

This will be the 25th running of the European Road Cycling Championships. The event consists of a total of 6 road races and 7 time trials regulated by the Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC) across Junior, U23 and Elite levels.
