There was bad luck for Simon Gerrans at Strade Bianche in Italy as he crashed an fractured his elbow. It’s not known at this stage how long he will be out of racing for. Gerrans won last year’s Liege-Bastogne-Liege.

It was the Australian’s first race since since breaking his collarbone in a mountain biking accident in December.

The Orica-GreenEdge rider posted a photo of his x-ray to Instagram, with the message, “That would be why my elbow hurts! Little fracture of the radial head. Couple weeks on the ergo ahead of me now. What doesn’t kill makes you stronger.”
