Police have been shown this shocking video that shows a driving perform a really close pass on a cyclist and then follows on with verbal abuse and trying to use his car to intimidate the cyclist by swerving at him. Meanwhile in the car the female passenger was doing her best to get the driver to stop but to no avail.

In the end the cyclist had to pretend he was turning left before moving over to the right leaving the angry driver going in a different direction.

The cyclist who took the video said: “I Couldn’t hear everything, what I did hear was just swearing, insults, threats and demands for me to stop and fight him.

“Incidents like this are very worrying as you never know if this particular idiot is going to drive into you or not. If they do decide to make contact, then it would definitely cause serious injury.

“Aggression from drivers is far too common in Birmingham and usually for some slight mistake or in this case no reason at all.”

  1. Here in the USA if a driver did that was described to a police officer, the officer would be justified in using deadly force. It should be no different for a private citizen. So yes, this is assault with a deadly weapon.

  2. I’ll bet that if a driver used his/her car in such a manner to intimidate a police officer then they’d go to jail. But when it’s a cyclist …. ah, sure it’s not so bad. Jeremy Clarkson, funny though he is, has a lot to answer for by promoting laddish car culture.

  3. By all means. This is assault and threat with a deadly weapon. All the best w/ prosecuting him. I’m pursuing a similar case here in the USA against a driver who I’ve got on rear-facing video (not sharing since it’s evidence) showing him changing lanes (on a 5 lane roadway- wasn’t slowing him down or in his way in the least) to intentionally pass me dangerously close and then proceeds to move back over to the center turn lane to turn within 100 m. Was able to get his plate number on a separate photo (wish I had fwd facing video camera at the time) and had a discussion with him, and from what he said to me made it very obvious he didn’t like me riding in the road and told me off w/ a lot of foul language. The local prosecuting atty. is only willing to file reckless driving charges; I’m pursuing assault and threat with a deadly weapon. Wish me luck!
