Italian cycling clothing brand Santini have released a new jersey and shorts to mark Stephen Roche’s win at the UCI Road World Championships in Villach, Austria in 1987 which completed a remarkable triple crown of victories that season. The new clothing is part of their Grandi Campioni Collection.

That year, the Dubliner became only the second rider alongside Eddy Merckx to win the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and the UCI Road World Championships in the same season. Merckx had achieved the feat back in 1974.

The ‘Villach 87’ jersey includes a specially designed rainbow stripes zip and the printed label stitched onto the back pocket explains how Roche won the World Championships after attacking hard on the last lap and sprinting for victory from a select group in the closing 300 metres. The jersey also features a triple crown motif.

The matching bib shorts feature a rainbow stripes design and also includes a silicone grip.

Previous jerseys in the collection include Le Cannibale which is dedicated to Eddy Merckx’s World Championships victory in Montreal in 1974 and La Dama Bianca which is dedicated to Fausto Coppi’s victory in Lugano in 1953.
