Following on from his seventh place finish in the Tour of Qatar (UCI 2.HC) last week, Sam Bennett has now moved into the World’s Top 20.

The Irish rider picked up 60 points for his high GC finish in Qatar and when added to the points he collected at the Mallorca Challenge last month, means he now sits in 17th position in the UCI World Rankings.

Australian rider Simon Gerrans of Orica-GreenEdge continues to lead the rankings thanks to his win in the Tour Down Under. Fellow Australians Richie Porte (Team Sky) and Jay McCarthy (Tinkoff) sit in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The only other Irish rider to pick up points so far in the new World rankings is Dan Martin (Etixx-Quick Step) who sits in 238th place thanks to his stage win and 13th place overall in the Tour of Valencia.

Bennett’s and Martin’s points leave Ireland in 21st place in the Nation’s Rankings. Australia lead with Italy in 2nd and France in 3rd.
