Irish Road and Time-Trial champion Ryan Mullen has been announced as part of the Trek-Segafredo line-up for the forthcoming Giro d’Italia. It will mark the Grand Tour debut for the 23 year-old.

Lining up alongside Mullen on the eight-man team are Gianluca Brambilla, Laurent Didier. Niklas Eg, Markel Irizar, Jarlinson Pantano, Mads Pedersen and Boy van Poppel. Adriano Baffi and Steven de Jongh will be the Directeur Sportifs for the tea,

Luca Guercilena, General Manager Trek-Segafredo said: “We are bringing a mixture of experience and young riders to the start, with the main goal to support Gianluca Brambilla in his chase for a great result. I am confident our 8 riders will make each other stronger and motivate one another to perform well as we also hunt for stage wins. I think we can be proud of our line-up for the first Grand Tour of the season.”

The Giro starts on May 4 with a 9.7-kilometre time-trial in Jerusalem with two road stages in Israel before the race entourage moves to Italy for Stage Four, a 191-kilometre stage between Catania and Caltagirone on Sicily.

In addition to the opening stage, time-trial specialist Mullen will have one other opportunity to test himself against the clock as Stage 16 is a 34.2-kilometre individual time-trial between Trento and Rovereto.
