In the past, Tour de France riders have had numerous encounters with dogs, sheep and horses which unfortunately have resulted in a number of crashes.

On today’s 184-kilometre stage in the Pyrenees from Pau to Bagnères-de-Luchon, the riders may have another four-legged animal to be mindful of.

Joël Adagas has posted a number of a photos in the past week of llamas on the Col du Tourmalet. According to Adagas, the owner of a campsite on the Tourmalet purchased the llamas and lets them loose on the mountain to graze during the summer.

The Hors Categorie 2,115 metre Col du Tourmalet is the first of four categorised climbs that the riders will face today. After the Tourmalet, the riders will then tackle the Hourquette d’Ancizan, the Col de Val Louron-Azet and the Col de Peyresourde
