For anybody in Britain or Ireland who watched the Tour de France backs in the ’80s, this music will bring back memories of watching the likes of Hinault, LeMond, Fignon, Roche and Delgado battling it out to win the race. It was the first introduction for many to what was then a predominantly Continental European-only sport.

The music is the theme tune from Channel 4’s coverage of the race, and was written by Pete Shelley of The Buzzcocks, the band best known for their single ‘Ever Fallen in Love’.

The cyclist featured in the video is Jeff Williams, who was a British pro from that era, having raced for ACBB and Raleigh-Banana amongst other teams.

This will get you in the mood for the forthcoming Tour!
