A cycling rally is set to take place in Dublin this Wednesday (September 21st) to request Shane Ross, the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to increase the percentage of transport funding for walking and cycling.

‘Rally for Action on Cycling’ is being organised by Ciarán Cuffe of the Green Party. The rally will assemble at Bernardo Square beside City Hall on Dame Street on Wednesday at 1pm, which is the European Day Without a Road Death.

According to a post on the Green Party’s Facebook page, the plan is to cycle to Minister Ross’s office at the Department of Transport Offices on Kildare Street. The statement says that: “In the light of recent tragic deaths of cyclists on our roads we demand 10% of transport funding for walking and cycling.”

They also request everybody to “Bring a flag, bring a banner, bring a friend!”
