The accident happened on the final sprint of Stage 4 of the Colorful Yunnan Gryffindor International Cycling Race in China on the 12th of November and left seventeen cyclists being rushed to hospital. Reports suggest the lead motor took a wrong turn before the finish bringing the riders past the finish line which meant the riders approached the finish from the wrong direction. This resulted in them meeting second group head-on as they were sprinting to the finish.

“I guessed there was something wrong with the guiding vehicle and referees, who reportedly didn’t do their job,” said Xing Yandong, a veteran Chinese cyclist.
