A pony joined up with the peloton on today’s sixth stage of the Tour de Pologne from Wieliczka to Zakopane.

Fortunately though, neither the pony nor any of the riders were hurt in the incident which happened with just over 104 kilometres remaining of today’s stage.

The pony ran amongst the riders in the bunch for a time, causing some small splits as riders edged cautiously past while they rode through a town.

The pony ran alongside the riders for about 800 metres before Roman Maikin of the Gazprom-RusVelo team veered towards the animal, directing it to safety down a side street.

Jack Haig of Orica-Scott went on to win the stage as Dylan Teuns (BMC Racing Team) took over the race lead.
