Former World Road Race champion Philippe Gilbert has left BMC Racing Team after five years having signed for Belgian team Quick Step Floors.

Gilbert had a lean enough 2016 season by his own high standards, taking just a handful of victories – the Vuelta a Murcia, two stages of the Tour of Luxembourg and the Belgian national championships.

However, the change of teams may be just what the classics specialist needs. It will be interesting to see whether he can get back to his very best and add to his palmares which includes victories in the Giro di Lombardia (2009, 2010), Liège–Bastogne–Liège (2011), Amstel Gold Race (2010, 2011, 2014) and La Flèche Wallonne (2011) in addition to his World Road Race win in 2012.

In the video below, the Belgian Champion talks of the first training camp with Quick-Step Floors Cycling Team, his best victory as a pro, and his expectations and goals for 2017.
