An online petition has been set up to petition British Eurosport to show women’s cycling in addition to their coverage of men’s. The petition has been set up by Tim Philips whose message is below:
There are thousands of new cycling fans in the UK, and many like me have come to love it from watching Olympic and World Championship track cycling (where women’s events are given essentially equal status) as well as road cycling (where women’s events are treated as a poor relation at best, and non-existent at worst).
I firmly believe an audience for women’s cycling exists, with the live events I have been to being very well supported, and yet on television women’s road racing is almost ignored. Surely it is at least worth trying coverage? It would be a step towards more equal treatment of the sport.
