This year’s Vuelta a España kicked off yesterday with a 27.8-kilometre team time-trial in Galicia from Balneario Laias to Parque Náutico de Castrelo de Miño.

Team Sky just edged out Movistar for victory with ORICA-BikeExchange in third and the winners set an average speed of 54.48 kilometres per hour for the test. Lampre-Merida were slowest on the day, finishing 2’08” behind Team Sky.

Peter Kennaugh was first across the line for Team Sky and will wear the red leader’s jersey going into today’s opening road stage from Ourense to Baiona.
