Today’s ninth stage of the Tour de France was the last of three tough days in the Pyrenees for the riders, and tomorrow they will have a well-deserved rest day before the race resumes on Tuesday.

The 184-kilometre route took the riders from Vielha val dAran to Andorra Arcalis and the riders had to tackle five categorised climbs along the way including the hors-categorie climb to the fi

Tom Dumoulin (Team Giant – Alpecin) emerged victorious at the end of the stage, finishing 38″ ahead of Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) and Rafal Majka (Tinkoff). The three riders had been members of a large break which had broken clear early on in the stage.

Chris Froome (Team Sky) hung on to his yellow jersey finishing in the same time as his main challenger Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team). Earlier on in the day, another rider who had been expected to challenge for the win – Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) – pulled out of the race after suffering with a fever.
