The Vuelta a España had its first summit finish of the race yesterday as the race hit the incredibly steep climb of Mirador de Ézaro. Alexandre Geniez (FDJ) held on to take the stage win as Ruben Fernadez (Movistar Team) took the overall lead from Michal Kwiatkowski (Team Sky).

Amongst the leading contenders, Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) again lost ground over his rivals, finishing 28 seconds behind Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team), Chris Froome (Team Sky) and Esteban Chaves (Orica-BikeExchange).

The race continues today with a 163.5-kilometre stage from Betanzos to San Andrés de Teixido where the riders will face another summit finish.
