Thomas de Gendt (Lotto Soudal) took the win on todays’s 12th stage of the Tour de France and as can be seen in the footage below, the riders didn’t have much space as they pushed through crowds of fans lining the route towards the finish line near the summit of Mont Ventoux.

De Gendt had been a member of a 13-man breakaway that had gotten clear early on the stage that had built up a massive 18-minute lead at one stage.

Behind, the GC contenders were impacted by the crowds encroaching on the road. A motorbike was held up by spectators with Chris Froome (Team Sky), Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) and Richie Porte (BMC Racing) ploughing into the back of the motorbike.

Froome resorted to running after his bike was badly damaged. He lost a considerable amount of time, before the race jury overturned his time losses meaning he hung on to his yellow jersey.
