Yesterday’s second stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné took the riders from Saint-Chamond to Arlanc and despite facing four categorised climbs en route, the stage was expected to suit the sprinters.

The stage did finish in a bunch sprint after Alexey Lutsenko (Astana) was reeled in with three kilometres remaining. The stage was won by Arnaud Démare (FDJ) who easily outsprinted Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) and Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) at the end of the 4.6km finishing straight in Arlanc. It was the Frenchman’s sixth victory of the season.

Thomas De Gendt (Lotto-Soudal) retained the lead in the overall classification and maintained his 48″ lead over Axel Domont AG2R La Mondiale).

Here is onboard footage from the stage which features the crash which happened on the finishing straight which the riders passed with 31 kilometres remaining. Nicolas Roche (BMC Racing) can also be seen passing his congratulations to race leader De Gendt.
