Team Katusha have posted a video of onboard footage from today’s opening stage of the Tour de France.

The stage took the riders from Mont-Saint-Michel / Utah Beach Sainte-Marie-du-Mont and was won by Mark Cavendish as he outsprinted Marcel Kittel and Peter Sagan to take the first yellow jersey of his career. This was his 27th stage victory at the Tour de France.

It was a nervous stage with a number of big crashes. Like in 2011, Alberto Contador during the opening stage. However, the Spaniard crossed the line in the same time as all the favourites. Brent Bookwalter (BMC Racing) and Luke Rowe (Team Sky) also went down in that crash.

In the finishing straight, there was another crash as Katusha’s Michael Morkov seemed to clip the foot of a barrier which sent him flying. Sam Bennett (Bora-Argon 18), Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) and Sky’s Geraint Thomas were among those who went down as a result.

The video captures some of this action.
