Following on from his cancer diagnosis back in July, the Tinkoff-Saxo team of Ivan Basso have confirmed that the Italian rider will not require any further treatment. They confirmed the news in a tweet posted yesterday which read:

‘Fabulous news on @ivanbasso! Results from final controls show no need for extra treatment. The dark period that started at @letour is over’

Basso had been diagnosed with testicular cancer during this year’s Tour de France and immediately withdrew from the race to seek treatment in Italy.

He made an announcement to the media at the time. “I have a bad announcement to give to you guys. On stage 5, I had a really small crash but in the crash I touched my testicle on the saddle and for a few days, I felt a small pain. Yesterday we spoke with the doctor of the Tour de France and we decided to go to make a special analysis in the hospital and the examination gave me bad news. I have a small cancer in the left testicle.”
