Following on from his from Tinkoff Saxo over the winter, Nicolas Roche will line up in his first race for Team Sky at the Vuelta a Andalucia (February 18-22) today.

Roche will be working for team leader Chris Froome who is also making his 2015 debut, and it could make for a very interesting race with the Briton taking on Alberto Contador (Tinkoff Saxo). Both riders however are downplaying their chances of an overall win.

Amongst other big names who could challenge for the overall victory are Jurgen van den Broeck (Lotto-Soudal), and Tour runner-up Jean Christophe Péraud (Ag2r La Mondiale).

The race starts off with a split stage consisting of a prologue in the morning, folllowed by a short flat stage in the afternoon.

Thursday’s and Friday’s stages could be challenging, but the decisive stage will be on Saturday when the riders will face the Category 1 Alto de Hazallanas.

Roche will be road captain for the race, with Peter Kennaugh, Vasil Kiryienka, Mikel Nieve, Kanstantsin Siutsou and Xabier Zandio also lining up for Team Sky.
