Nicolas Roche (Team Sky) claimed second place overall at the Abu Dhabi Tour today, finishing on the same time in today’s stage as race Tanel Kangert (Astana Pro Team).

The four-day race wrapped up with a 143-kilometre stage which took place under the lights of the Yas Marina Formula One circuit.

As expected, the stage finished in a bunch sprint with Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) edging out Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo) and Elia Viviani (Team Sky) for his second stage win of the race.

Roche crossed the line 6 seconds behind due to a split in the bunch to cement his second place overall. The Irish champion had moved up to second place on yesterday’s queen stage to the Jebel Hafeet summit finish.

Kangert won yesterday’s stage to claim the red jersey, and he hung on comfortably today, winning the race by a margin of 21 seconds. Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) finished in third place overall, a further 22″ down on Roche.

The Abu Dhabi Tour was the Irishman’s final race for Team Sky as he joins BMC Racing for the 2017 season.
