Following on from the recent news that the Irish National Road Race Championships could no longer be held in the Phoenix Park in Dublin, race organisers Orwell Wheelers have announced a new location for the road races.

The original plan was scuppered when it was announced that there would be restricted access to the Phoenix Park on the weekend of the championships due to the visit of US Vice President Joe Biden. The visit also resulted in a lack of Garda resources being available that weekend.

The races are now set to take place in Blessington, Co. Wicklow with the route taking in the scenic Lake Drive which is a very popular training route for many cyclists from around the Wicklow, Kildare and Dublin areas.

The statement from Orwell Wheelers is as follows:

Entries open from 5 pm tonight (25th May).

Fantastic route announced along the side of the Blessington cycle Greenway then Valleymount, Ballyknocken, Lacken around the beautiful Lake Drive. Finish on Main Street Blessington.
June 25th M40/M50/M60.
June 26th elite women & senior men including U23.

TT course will be agreed later in week but entries are open now.
