Due to the closure of the Chambon tunnel in April between the Col du Lautaret and Le Bourg d’Oisans, organisers of La Marmotte Gran Fondo have announced a new route for the event.

La Marmotte first took place in 1982, making it one of the oldest cyclosportive events of its kind. It remains one of the most popular cyclosportive events today in Europe, with interest in participation exceeding the 7000 places available. Amongst those who have won the event in the past include Laurens Ten Dam and Laurent Brochard.

As had been predicted, the new route will first use the Col du Glandon and will return via the Col de la Croix de Fer, rather than the traditional route of returning to Le Bourg d’Oisans via the Col de Télégraphe and Col du Glandon.

The revised route will be approximately the same length (170km), with the same amount of vertical climbing (5100m). The route is as follows.

Le Bourg d’Oisans (719m)
Col du Glandon (1924m)
Montvernier (777m)
Col du Mollard (1630m)
Col de la Croix de Fer (2058m)
Le Bourg d’Oisans (719m)
Alpe d’Huez (1880m)
