The organisers of Paris-Roubaix have posted a number of photos from the course to be used for next Sunday’s race showing particular sections covered in mud following heavy rain. The photos were taken during a reconnaissance trip of the course with members of the media.
More rain is predicted over the coming days and if the course doesn’t dry out by Sunday, it could result in a particularly difficult race.
In previous editions where there has been heavy rain in the days preceding the race, it has caused significantly more problems for the riders with an increase in the number of crashes and mechanicals.
A particularly memorable race run off in these conditions was the 1994 edition won by Andrei Tchmil which saw riders suffer numerous punctures and crashes.

You’d need a mountain bike for that.
It’s “the hell of the North” right ?
