Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport have posted a video on their site of a Movistar rider’s bike after a crash, with the rear wheel continuing to spin, questioning whether it’s caused by a hidden motor.
The crash took place when Spanish rider Ion Izagirre slid out on a bend and hit a barrier during the opening time-trial stage of the Tour of Valencia.
Despite the crash, Izagirre’s rear wheel continues to turn and this has raised some eyebrows.
The incident follows on from the recent discovery of a bike at the U23 Women’s World Cycling Championships was found to have a hidden motor.
It’s not the first time that the finger of suspicion has been pointed at the Movistar team. In last year’s Vuelta a Espana, a video emerged showing a team mechanic removing a bike from the rack on the team car which is then taken away by the soigneur.
The Spanish newspaper Diario AS who posted the video claimed that the mechanic said “hide the bike” to the soigneur. The team later stated that they did not want any photos taken of a damaged frame so as to protect the reputation of their bike supplier.
It looks like a quite simple spinning wheel to me…
the 2nd time (after he drops the bike ) is indeed bit strange.

do we really believe any World Tour team would risk this after the recent findings at the cross world’s?
nah can’t see it, if there was a motor the bike would have moved forward when he stood it up.
