The Belgian pair of Kenny De Ketele and Moreno De Pauw have set an impressive track record on the second night of the Six Days of Ghent.

They set a time of 26.65″ in the 500-metre time-trial which beat their previous record time of 26.90″ which they had set on the opening night of the meet.

The record time before this week had been established by two pairings – Swiss duo Tristan Marguet and Franco Marvulli and the German rider Christian Grasman and De Pauw. They had both set times of 27.03″ for the three laps of the 166-metre track.

De Ketele set the pace on the opening lap before launching De Pauw and their average speed for the time-trial was an incredible 67.54 kilometres per hour.

Meanwhile Iljo Keisse and Elia Viviani (Team Lidl) have taken over the lead after the second evening of competition with 146 points. Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish sit in second place with 141 points and De Ketele and De Pauw are in third place, a lap down with 164 points.
