Matt Brammeier (MTN-Qhubeka) had a nightmare start to the Tour of Luxembourg yesterday evening when he finished in last position in the prologue, 1’22” behind the winner, Adrien Petit (Cofidis, Solutions Crédits). He was a full 39 seconds behind the next two slowest riders.

However, the Irish rider later tweeted information explaining what had happened, saying “3’52” with 1 cleat missing …..I wish… I’m guessing it was 4:52 after I walked the last km.. What a waste of a day. On to the next one..”

His reference to a time of 3’52” is in relation to the time which had been originally posted on Twitter as being his finishing time. Numerous tweets then suggested that Brammeier had set the fastest time of the evening for the prologue. This resulted in considerable confusion as to whether Brammeier or Petit had set the fastest time, until it was confirmed that the Frenchman was the winner.

The race continues today with a 212km stage from Luxembourg to Küntzig and finishes on Sunday following another three hilly road stages.
