The UCI World Track Championships concluded this evening with the 200 lap Men’s Madison. Early on, three teams – Switzerland, France and Colombia took a lap on the rest of the field.

These three teams were subseqently joined by Australia, leaving four teams one lap ahead with less then 50 laps remaining.

Meanwhile, the British duo of Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish had been building up points in intermediate sprints. However, they were a lap down on the leading four

They made a couple of tentative efforts to go clear but with 30 laps to go they made their big move. They eventually gained that lap along with the Spanish team which put them in the lead.

Great Britain hung on over the final ten laps to win, despite a late crash for Cavendish. France took the silver medal and Spain the bronze.
