Following on from a very difficult season whereby she suffered from hamstring and back injuries and wrote off any ambitions for the road half-way through the year, Dutch rider Marianne Vos has been given the green light to restart training.

The news was announced on the website of her Rabobank-Liv team. The team’s statement was as follows:

Marianne Vos seems to be recovered from overtraining. She’s undergone a medical test that showed she made progress. Marianne has permission to start with training again. Nevertheless she has to stay very cautious. There are no plans for a return date to racing, however, she does have her sights set on the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Watch the video message.

The multiple World Champion wrote a blog entry last week on the team’s website, where she spoke about having overtrained and her need for rest.

“Rest is currently the best way to return as soon as possible on the bike. That’s the hardest race of my career because I have always achieved results by working hard,” Vos said.

“I’ve never lived as disciplined as I have in recent months. I pay attention to my diet and I pay close attention to my daily activities. As part of my recovery, I do have a program of light exercise, but it is not comparable with intense exercise. I will get long-term recovery if I do not overexert my body.”

She went on to say that she won’t be taking part in any cyclo-cross races this season, but will be aiming for the Olympics next year.
