There are plenty of VR apps for cycling with artificial worlds but none using real world environments. Australian Aaron Puzey who currently lives in Scotland wrote his own app which stitches Google Street view images together which then get transmitted to his VR headset.

Puzey says “Using a Gear VR, a cadence monitor and my exercise bike I’m cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats. I’m using Google Street View data to generate the 3D world. As you’ll see it has some… problems. But it’s still better than anything else out there”

Puzey says he has been a regular user of his exercise bike for years but only manages about 30 minutes on it because it is so boring and that is why he created the app.

With everything in place he set about the journey from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in the north of Scotland with total distance of 1,347 km.

He is currently looking for backers to get this developed for the public you can find out more over on his website.
