A young man had a lucky escape in Madrid when he cycled off a Metro platform and fell head first onto the tracks. A video of the incident was uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday.

The man was using a bike from Bici Madrid, the city’s shared public bike system at Avenida de la Paz station when he careered off the platform.

His friend, who had been filming the stunt, dropped the camera to help drag his friend to safety. The incident occurred on October 10th at 11.36pm in the north east of the Spanish capital. The cyclist then abandoned the bike and left the station on the next train.

Cyclists are allowed to bring bikes on the Metro during off-peak hours, but have to push the bikes and not cycle them. A spokesperson from Madrid Metro told El País that they are investigating the incident. They hope to identify the man and fine him for riding the bike.
