On a day where the Vuelta was marred by multiple crashes forcing a number of riders out of the race, one cyclist had a very lucky escape.

Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar) skidded out on the same bend as where Alex Howes (Cannondale-Garmin) had also crashed.

Rojas went sliding towards the barriers at the side of the road, but luckily enough, went under the barrier rather than colliding with it.

The former Spanish champion quickly remounted and went on to finish the stage in 9th position. He later tweeted that he had hurt his collarbone but had not broken it. He also said that he was disappointed as he felt he could have won.

A spectator captured the incident and later posted the video.
