With a year left on his contract with Orica-GreenEDGE, Christian Meier retired from professional racing to follow a different path within cycling.

It’s an intriguing story and one that Mike Cotty from The Col Collective wanted to find out a little more about. Now the owner of La Fábrica, Espresso Mafia and The Service Course, all in the heart of Girona’s old quarter, Mike sat down with Christian to learn about his past and find out more about how his love of coffee finally took him away from the pro peloton and in a whole new direction.

Christian left his home in Canada to follow his passion and dream to become a pro bike racer, riding the Classics and Grand Tours with some of the best riders of his generation, and then after 11 years as a pro retiring early.

This is a conversation that’s about more than just bikes and beans. Taking chances, overcoming adversity, following your heart, and most importantly putting in the hours are life lessons we can all learn from.
