French newspaper L’Équipe have announced who they feel to be the best cyclists of the season in various categories and they consider Irish rider Sam Bennett (Bora-Argon 18) to be the sprinting revelation of the season.

The categories of riders that they listed were Grand Tour riders, climbers, classics riders, time triallists, puncheurs, French riders and sprinters.

André Greipel (Lotto-Soudal), Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) and Mark Cavendish (Etixx-Quick Step) were considered to be the top three sprinters of 2015, and it was a nice acknowledgement for the young Irish rider to be recognised as the revelation of the season.

In his second season with the Bora-Argon 18 team, Bennett won stages of the Tour of Qatar (UCI 2.HC), Bayern Rundfahrt (UCI 2.HC), the Arctic Race of Norway (UCI 2.HC) in addition to Paris-Bourges (UCI 1.1).

Chris Froome (Team Sky) was considered to be the best Grand Tour rider ahead of Fabio Aru (Astana) and Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo). Amongst the other category winners were:

Best Puncheur: Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo)
Best Classics Rider: John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin)
Best Climber: Chris Froome (Team Sky)
Best Time Triallist: Rohan Dennis (BMC)
Best French Rider: Thibaut Pinot (FDJ)
