Laurens De Plus has been forced to postpone his start to the season after being diagnosed with a fracture. The 22 year-old underwent further tests at the Mediclinic hospital in Nelspruit South Africa where he was admitted after he and Quick-Step Floors teammate Petr Vakoč were both hit by a truck during their training camp last week.

The two, who were training with Bob Jungels, were struck by a truck which had been travelling behind them.

According to a statement from his team, the tests revealed “a non-displaced fracture to the acetabulum on the right side of his pelvis and a microfracture to his sacrum.”

De Plus – who will fly home tomorrow evening – will have to undergo conservative therapy and he will need at least three weeks of recovery before resuming training.

It’s the latest setback for De Plus. Towards the end of last season, he crashed at Il Lombardia and he was out of action for a month after suffering a fracture in his right knee.
