Julien Bernard and Trek-Segafredo have agreed on a two-year contract extension through the end of 2021. The 27-year-old French climber is currently participating in the Tour de France where his role has been as a key support rider.

Julien Bernard: “For me, re-signing with Trek-Segafredo was the next logical step in my career. I really feel well within this team and I have never hidden it; it is my second family when I am at the races. The riders and staff, everybody, pushes me to get the best out of myself. For me it was very clear that I wanted to stay. In this team I feel I get the time to keep progressing and the confidence they give me, by lining me up at the most beautiful races on the calendar, the races that I love the most, like for example the Tour de France, boosts me even more.”

General Manager Luca Guercilena: “In the past years we have seen Julien developing and taking steps every year and we believe he will still take a few more steps in the coming years. He is a very loyal rider who reads a race extremely well and is able to execute a tactical plan to perfection.

“When we ask him to race aggressively and be in the break, he will always give his maximum to do so. I would even go as far as calling him our breakaway king; he makes it seem easy to jump in the right break, while we all know it isn’t. I am looking forward to seeing him progress this skill even more in the next years.”
